Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
The opening to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is my absolute favorite beginning to a Marvel film. It’s hard to get much better than Baby Groot dancing to the snazzy, upbeat tempo of ELO’s “Mr. Blue Sky” as his team gets thrashed by an alien monster. The entire scene is hilarious and visually impressive as we see a panoramic view of northern lights, fireballs, and colorful gunfire while ELO happily (and ironically) chirps along. We also get our first taste of Rocket’s parenting style, smacking Baby Groot for trying to eat an alien bug and yelling, “Spit it out! Disgusting.” And as a nod to the credit scene from the first movie, Baby Groot suddenly stops dancing as soon as Drax notices him. Genius.
